Give Memories
There are three stages to giving memory or material.
Stage (1)
You need to tell us about it.
Stage (2)
We collect it and you give explicit permission, based on a simple form, on how you want it to be used. You can choose how/if your identity is made public.
Stage (3)
We integrate it into the collection.
Giving memory via the response form
Throughout the site, there are links to ‘give memory’. These jump to the response form. Anything you tell us via the form is treated as strictly confidential until you give permission for its use formally in Stage (2). Some people will treat it as a kind of online blog interface, chatting quite informally. Others will want to think about their words or even prefer to chat to someone about their memory. YOU CAN AMEND YOUR WORDS WHEN YOU GIVE PERMISSION IN STAGE (2). So just use the form in whatever way feels most comfortable.
Talking to a human being
If you want to talk to someone in person, just select that option from the drop down list and add in the comment box what it’s about. Remember to leave clear instructions about when it is best to call you. Alternatively, leave a message on 020 7609 1811 if it is not staffed when you call.
Uploading image, audio and video files
Let us know in the comment box when you are giving memory, if you want to contribute multi-media content, or if you wish to have help scanning items or recording an audio or video contribution. We will explain the details as part of stage (2). We intend running sessions to empower people with these facilities in the near future. Let us know if you want to help or come along!
Material as well as memory
We are interested in building a real-world collection too. We intend creating locally-based collections in archives around the country. Get in touch for details, or if you wish to act as a Proud Heritage Collection partner. (More on this when we launch the Proud Nation wing in June.)
Remember, we need volunteers to help with every stage of this process, can you help?
Here's that form — for memories, questions and more!
