How to give memories and materials
Walking Proud
Walking Proud in Britain is the wing of Proud Heritage dedicated to galleries on local history.
We want to create a real buzz about recording and sharing local LGBT history. All to often the places most meaningful to us have no public recognition. We will be showcasing existing projects, helping to create new ones and combining the potential of the web with grassroots activity.
First off, we launch Walking Proud in London, which queers Googlemap technology to mark sights of LGBT memory. We are looking for partners around the country to roll this out nationwide.
Then, shortly, we open Walking Proud in Islington. This will trigger memories about one of the queerest boroughs in Britain and forms part of a year-long project in association with the London Borough of Islington. We are looking to develop similar projects elsewhere.
Next will be our first multimedia exhibition, A Very Civil Partnership, revealing the lesbian and transgender cultural ancestry of the Ladies of Llangollen, a same-sex couple who lived together in North Wales from 1780-1830. We have been working with Denbighshire County Council to develop this ground-breaking project since 2006.
What opens after that will reflect your feedback!
